The original VTR250 was a small faired sports bike sold only in North America from 1988 to 1990, billed as the baby of Honda's Interceptor family. It used a high-revving liquid-cooled 249 cc DOHC V-twin with a six-speed gearbox and twin carburettors. For 1990 it gained a 17-inch front wheel and a conventional external front disc. It has nothing in common styling-wise with the later naked VTR250.
